The Centre for Human Genetics (CHG) is engaged in advanced research, education and specialized training in human genetics and genomics, especially in relation to human health and disease. This autonomous institution is located in the Biotech Park and is supported by funds from the government of Karnataka. Teaching programmes run by the institute include MSc in Human Disease Genetics, PhD in Human Genetics and Fellowship in Paediatric Genetics. Besides research and training, CHG provides comprehensive diagnostic and clinical services to patients with genetic and inborn metabolic disorders. The Centre’s faculty are also engaged in developing low-cost strategies for diagnosis and treatment of rare genetic disorders.

Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health, (IGICH), Bengaluru is a premier autonomous institute under the aegis of Government of Karnataka. It is a tertiary 480 bedded Paediatric hospital providing comprehensive care to children mostly belonging to low socio-economic families. In addition to general paediatric services, IGICH offers speciality services like Paediatric and Neonatal critical care and other Paediatric specialties including Surgery, Orthopaedics, Endocrinology, Dermatology, Haematology, ENT, Paediatric HIV, Paediatric Neurology and Neuro-developmental departments. IGICH also runs a Genetics clinic and houses the Centre for Excellence for Rare Diseases established in partnership with CHG and the Organization for Rare Diseases, India (ORDI). The NACO established Centre of Excellence for Pediatric HIV, the State Resource centre for beta-thalessemia, a state-of-the-art NICU and a Club-foot treatment unit are also established here. Post-graduate training for MD Paediatrics and postgraduate fellowship programmes in sub-specialties are offered. The Institute also has several clinical research projects in partnership with other institutes.
